12/3/08 I Didn't Ask

I had to laugh
when you brought me
purple flowers from the grocery store
for our anniversary

and I opened
the plastic package
and the entire inside of the bouquet
was moldy.

I wondered
if the metaphor
had been intentional on your end
but I didn't ask.
