When Frida traveled to Europe with Diego Rivera
she was introduced to Pablo Picasso,
who gave her a pair of gold earrings
in the shape of dangling hands as a gift,
which she later painted herself wearing.
If I had been that pair of hand earrings hanging
in Frida's ears I would have whispered to her,
"I'm sorry that everything hurts so much,
and I'm sorry that you don't feel beautiful.
If I could, I would be your lost leg."
